There you have it, the (albeit slightly misguided) mission statement made by a young Mark Sellings.
I was fortunate enough to have parents who actively encouraged a passion for wildlife and my environment at an early age. Like many, somewhere along the way, what with studying and then working in London, I lost sight of what it was that really made me happy in life - some mud, some trees and an animal or two.
Moving down to Devon rekindled my interest in getting out and about in the british countryside, and once I had seen the Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition at the Natural History Museum I knew then what I would be doing for the next couple of decades.
Integral to my work is a strong ethos of conservation and caring for the very subjects I am fortunate enough to be able to photograph. The welfare of any animal I photograph comes way above getting it on a slide, and to this end I am more than happy to let wildlife charities use my images free of charge.
I'm not in this for the money, but purely for the experiences...
Equipment
I work with a minimum of equipment, preferring to use fieldcraft where possible to get close to subjects.
I finally decided to switch to digital with the Canon EOS 20D in combination with my favourite lens, the Canon IS 100-400 Zoom, and a Manfrotto tripod. This setup offers a great amount of flexibility and allows me to cope with all the various types of British wildlife I encounter.
